Bedroom Makeover
After I got sick and recovered, I started feeling really uncomfortable in my room. There was so much going on and I felt like I’d grown and my room hadn’t grown with me. Then there’s the whole thing about Pastor Mark teaching about your home being “En Gedi” for your husband/family. I’m not married, but I figured I might as well get a head start on learning about decorating and turning a house into a haven.
So here’s the before pic:
Problems:
- I’ve had those 2 sports cars on my wall since I was like 13 and trying to fit in with the guys
- Make-up, lotions, body washes were all out on my bureau and it just looked messy
- Bare depressing walls and sound system wires hanging every which way
- Tinsel on my mirror which again I’ve had since I was 16
- Mess
- Yeah, my closet doesn’t always look like that, this was after laundry day and I hadn’t ironed YET!
- Unmade bed
- Empty TV stand
- 2nd closet
Voila, here’s the after pic, after 2 days of ironing and organizing:
- Canvas paintings on the wall that I love! When I get married, in our room, I’d like huge canvas paintings like that of us, I think that’d be so cool!
- Replaced the cosmetics with a book nook
- Put a picture frame and some fake flowers up on the speaker stand, looks really cool up-close
- Neat tied curtains
- Replaced the empty TV stand with a mini-office for blogging and studying and stuff

- Green carpet, brown floors…love!
- Jewelry drawer in the dresser, used little card to keep the earrings organized
- Took the Tinsel off the mirror and cleaned it up, love the black, looks mature

- Organized shoes
- Took apart the TV stand and set it up in the closet for the cosmetics

Madaraka Day 2012 Re-cap
So, last Friday we Kenyans celebrated Madaraka day, which is Independence Day, when Kenya gained independence from the British colonialists 49 years ago.
I don’t know if it’s like this for everyone, but it’s not such a patriotic big deal to me anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I love freedom and all, but now, a public holiday is just a day off and in this case, a long weekend desperately needed.
I slept in, I was exhausted form my exam that Thursday, woke up at around 9, watched a couple of movies in bed. Then, my sister came over with my (almost 2 y/o!) nephew JT! I’d missed that little guy so much! We caught up and made a bunch of toasted sandwiches…I got so full I couldn’t eat anything for the rest of the day (there goes another day of kicking healthy eating habits out of the window)
Then we got the trike out for my little man, who by the way started calling me “Auntie Amla” (My 2ndname is Nyambura, which only my family calls me, so Amla is pretty close :-) ) Aww, I’m an aunty, so cool! My niece, (brother’s daughter) is 3 y/o, and she calls me “Ambua”, which is also the cutest thing, now just working on her to add ‘auntie’ to that.

Tiny Closet Before and After
I'm really trying to get organized because its starting to feel like I'm disappearing beneath a sea of stuff. For instance, (and I am fully confident in showing these before pics because I'm sitting in a gorgeous organized room right now :-) )
BEFORE:
my bureau/tv stand before
(ignore the cup and saucer I'd just had breakfast!!!)
This served as not only my TV/Play Station stand, but also my make-up and product center
BEFORE:
the messiest side of my closet
(sadly this is all clean laundry that I never got around to hanging up)
AFTER:
organized all my drawers in my bureau
(have now, an earrings drawer as above and other different categories of stuff)
AFTER:
I took the clothes out of this part of my closet, which is now my product nook
(I disassembled some shelves and put them in here)
(as you can see, I'm a Nivea girl)
