White Dress and Heels

I’m not really a dressy person, I’m more of a jeans girl. I wore skirts all the way through primary school. I was in boarding school in High School and wore skirts for another 4 years straight. I went to a private university with a strict  dress code, so again, it was mostly skirts and loose trousers, finally got a chance to wear jeans when I moved to my public university. So, I’m partial to jeans and flats; if I’m feeling more dressy, maybe skinny jeans and heels.

 

Going to church, personally, I can’t exactly be comfortable jumping up and down at worship time or walking around saying hi to people all across the campus in a dress and heels, but I did make an exception a couple of weeks ago:

 

My mom’s friend and her daughter run a home-shopping business/boutique and they brought over some clothes for us to try. So this is one of three dresses I bought. I like it, except for the fact that it creases easily, I like it.

The last time I wore this was to our New Years’ service, then the weather got hot after January and I retired it. Now that it’s cooling down, I thought it was time I brought it out of retirement.

Local Week: Furifuri Dance by Jimmy Gait

I couldn't finish off local week without adding my favorite song of 2011. This is such a ridiculous song, ridiculous in a fun way. Furifuri dance, as in fully fully dance, another praise/celebration song by Jimmy Gait.

I love this original version, they made the mistake of doing a remix of it which was just horrible, like a clash betweeen spirituality, politics and kenyan personas. I love this original version though, totally fun and you'll like the dance too.

The Nerd Comes To Visit :-)

A couple of weeks ago, one of my great great friends, who shall forthwith be referred to fondly as “The Nerd” because he’s cool like that :-)came over to visit. (I call him a nerd, he called me a blonde, so it stuck)

Anyway, my PC was messed up and I asked him over to fix it, dude comes over (with food, yay!) barely touches my desktop, and gets it to work. Apparently it was a loose cable, which I absolutely deny because I’d checked and there were no loose cables! 

I felt like such a ditz for calling him over for a loose cable! Anyway, it gave us a good chance to catch up, exchange movies and music and just laugh! It was really fun. Can’t wait for the next one, I’m thinking I loosen another cable ;-)

Joke of the day: “eating special cookies” to play chess and watch documentaries. (Don’t worry, inside joke just wanted to write that down so I could remember) Ahh, nerd!

Madaraka Day 2012 Re-cap

So, last Friday we Kenyans celebrated Madaraka day, which is Independence Day, when Kenya gained independence from the British colonialists 49 years ago.

I don’t know if it’s like this for everyone, but it’s not such a patriotic big deal to me anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I love freedom and all, but now, a public holiday is just a day off and in this case, a long weekend desperately needed.

I slept in, I was exhausted form my exam that Thursday, woke up at around 9, watched a couple of movies in bed. Then, my sister came over with my (almost 2 y/o!) nephew JT! I’d missed that little guy so much! We caught up and made a bunch of toasted sandwiches…I got so full I couldn’t eat anything for the rest of the day (there goes another day of kicking healthy eating habits out of the window)

Then we got the trike out for my little man, who by the way started calling me “Auntie Amla” (My 2^ndname is Nyambura, which only my family calls me, so Amla is pretty close :-) ) Aww, I’m an aunty, so cool! My niece, (brother’s daughter) is 3 y/o, and she calls me “Ambua”, which is also the cutest thing, now just working on her to add ‘auntie’ to that.

Another fun video, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the videography of this song, everything just works. Jimmy Gait is a powerhouse of local talent and has done hit songs like Muhadhara and Furifuri dance. This is a celebration song that you're gonna have a hard time getting out of your head. Totally Africa's Song of The Year material!
